Interesting Quotes by Kids

Just a little while ago Soren ran up to me and gave me a sponteous hug and said "Mommy, you're my favorite mommy. And I think you're cute. And you share things with me."

I thought it was incredibly sweet and it gave me some insight into his personality. Not did he just declare to me that I was his favorite mommy, but he gave me concrete reasons why. He's a thinker... and he won't give compliments or make statements that don't have real reasons behind them. It's consistent with the rest of his personality... he has a very hard time obeying unless he understands the reason why he should or should not do whatever is told him. If it doesn't make sense to him he'll fight it. Makes it difficult right now - for both us as the parents and him as the child, but will result hopefully in a fabulous adult because he will have worked hard to understand how and why things work around him. He'll do the right thing for more than the sake of "just doing the right thing" (which does have to be done sometimes I realize), he'll do it because the premise and reasons behind doing the right thing make sense to him. He takes time to think it all through.

He also states facts. Case in point... "You're cute, mommy".

I'm glad I'm his favorite mommy and I'm glad he came up with reasons why. It makes me feel loved.

Other quotables.

We had company arrive just as I put lunch out for Soren a couple of weeks ago and in the hubub of saying hi, giving hugs, and all of that I forgot to give Soren some milk. He kept trying ot get my attention and I kind of heard it, but didn't hear it being so distracted with excitement over our company (Layth's sister and family from Michigan) arriving. Soren finally started saying "mom, stop talking please. MOM! Can you please stop talking and get me some milk?" And then finally, "MOM, JESUS SAYS STOP TALKING!". THAT got my attention. He had milk very soon after.

The conclusion from this statement - Layth and I have tried to make it clear that we obey Jesus in our home. It looks like Soren has understood the concept. I'm glad. Now we just have to work on him using that as a manipulation tactic!

And, my nephew Anders (same age as Soren) when asked why the sky is blue:
"Because it's a clouds favorite color."

I couldn't have come up with anything better than that. Is that a line in a children's book? Does anyone know? If not, one of you writers out there needs to build a children's story centered around that line. I think its fantastic.

I've really wanted to post more pictures of milwaukee, but many of our pictures are with Vance and Alicia and the group rooms that we use to share photos (Costco) has been "upgrading" or whatever for several weeks now. So, as soon as they get all the bugs worked out and I can get my pictures I'll post some more. We had such a great time.
